As first uncovered by Chriss Street & Company last week “New York Fallout: President Obama Moving to Avoid “Political Suicide”; the rebellion of the collectivist left against President Obama’s smooth path to the Democratic nomination went public today in the main-stream- media. The Washington Post detailed efforts by a group of liberal leaders, including former Presidential candidate Ralph Nader; Princeton Professor Cornel West; Chris Townsend of the United Electrical Workers of America, and President Emeritus Brent Blackwelder of Friends of the Earth. According to the WT:
“The group said the goal is to offer up a handful of candidates from various fields and areas where the President either has failed to stake out a “progressive” position or where he has “drifted toward the corporatist right.”…
“Without debates by challengers inside the Democratic Party’s presidential primaries, the liberal/majoritarian agenda will be muted and ignored,” Mr. Nader said in a news release. “The one-man Democratic primaries will be dull, repetitive, and draining of both voter enthusiasm and real bright lines between the two parties that excite voters.”…
In search of candidates, Mr. Nader and the others sent out a letter, endorsed by 45 “distinguished leaders,”to elected officials, civic leaders, academics and members of the progressive community who specialize among other things in labor, poverty, military and foreign policy. The list, they said, also includes progressive Democrats who have held national and state office and have fought for progressive reforms. …
“We need to put strong Democratic pressure on President Obama in the name of poor and working people,” said Cornel West, author and professor at Princeton University who has been highly critical of Mr. Obama’s tenure since helping him get elected in 2008. “His administration has tilted too much toward Wall Street, we need policies that empower Main Street.”
We reported this “coup d’état” was brewing against the President by the extremist wing of his party” and identified Mat Stoller of the Roosevelt Institutearticle; “What Democrats can do about Obama” published on the liberal “Salon” website as the coded go message for “Democratic groups — union households, women and young people” to “decapitate the President’s re-election campaign if his plummeting prospects threatened to drag down other Democrats in the 2012”. Stoller made the point that as President Obama has triangulated away from hard core liberal orthodoxy Democratic affiliation has fallen to “22-year low of only 31%”:
It would be one thing if Obama were failing because he was too close to party orthodoxy. Yet his failures have come precisely because Obama has not listened to Democratic Party voters. He continued idiotic wars, bailed out banks, ignored luminaries like Paul Krugman, and generally did whatever he could to repudiate the New Deal. The Democratic Party should be the party of pay raises and homes, but under Obama it has become the party of pay cuts and foreclosures. Getting rid of Obama as the head of the party is the first step in reverting to form.
This writer has had lots of fun beating up on $5 trillion of faux economic stimulus funded by endless deficits advocated by “luminaries like Paul Krugman”. But revolutions are not humorous if you are on the receiving end of the pitch forks! President Obama seems to now be taking our advice to pay attention to the revolutionary smell of napalm in the morning:
“As the acrid smell of rebel bomb-fires fill the Washington air; President Barack Hussein Obama had best be hunkered down in the White House Situation Room, with what’s left of his loyalists cadre, reading up on how to avoid the “Arab Spring” failures of Egypt’s President Hosni Mubarak and Libya’s Colonel Muammar Gadhafi.”
